Something WILD is in the air, but when I set aside the greater world it is not all dangerous chaos and looming disaster. I find myself awash in magazine assignments pertaining to both the recreational and commercial sides of the West Coast sea salty scene without hours to spare. Although almost never mainstream news, positive themes abound in the marine sphere: exciting domestic manufacturing, new environmentally friendly technologies put to work, and plenty of inspiring and hardworking folks.
Stay tuned for these as they go to press. Marine news tends to be just the facts about an exciting boat going to sea with a colorful cast of characters involved. Consider sprinkling some maritime-y news into your information diet as a pallet cleanser, a metaphorical pickled ginger slice.
I finally had the pleasure of holding my new book in physical form. Salmon in the Seine: Alaskan Memories of Life, Death, & Everything In-Between is currently for sale wherever books are sold with an official May launch. I didn’t expect the experience of actually holding the book to invoke an emotional response (“I’m way too cool for that!”), but I’ll confess, it was a moment.
I feel compelled to share the Prologue as a Costco-style free sample. I hope you’re navigating this crazy young decade in style. As the Prologue below states, “For all I know, God is a fisherman with bills to pay.”
